Senior Commodity Analyst

JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Commodity Analyst reports to the Manager – Business Transformation and plays a key role in helping the Business Transformation and Management teams make data-driven, informed and rational decisions that result in the best financial performance for the business. In this role the candidate will be expected to work closely with Sales and Marketing, Business Transformation and Management teams. The individual will produce actionable research and analysis, produce original research reports and do simple to complex analysis. The candidate will be expected to draw his/her own conclusions from research, and to present the findings to the Business Transformation Manager, and other Senior Management members.

MAIN DUTIES

Knowledge, Data Analysis, and Creating Narratives;

• A Research specialist and an industry exposure in metals and mining, or resource sector, you will be helping in creating unique and actionable commodity analytical reports, technical articles, and pricing analysis. Working in close coordination with the Business Transformation, Sales and Marketing, and Senior Management.
• Understanding of the key macro-economic variables that affect commodity supply and demand.
• Continuously interact with S&M team, communicating what is driving moves in commodity prices as they happen, together with potential consequences for realized and implied volatility.
• Proactive in creating a scenario-based approach, how changing environment impacts the business, backed by research-based solution and recommendations.
• Own and conduct any ground research required for the project. The Senior Commodity Analyst will conduct country or region specific, or commodity specific research as desired and approved by reporting manager. This will include travel to customer sites in and outside Hanoi, depending on project and requirement.

Methodologies, Technical Analysis, and Fundamental Analysis;

• Updating existing models, and assist in developing new models for supply, demand, capacity, cost, and other critical metrics. Identify necessary data inputs and oversees procurement, collection, cleaning, and validation.
• Understanding of analytical tools, mathematical concepts, and processes with experience handling large data sets.
• Starting level understanding of statistical foundations, particularly with regards to time series data, and forecasting.
• Appreciation of advanced statistical modelling and forecasting. Able to critically assess statistical analyses and forecast models and suggest improvements.
• Knowledge of advanced visualization tools beyond Excel e.g. Power BI will be good to have.
• Fluent / native Vietnamese language and fluent English are a must requirement.

Manage

• Manages internal enquiries about the markets, S&M research reports and accountable for the fulfilment of requests for insight and data for presentations and interviews.
• Work closely with internal and external industry experts and country/political analysts globally to provide a macro analysis.
• Building up unified database for MHT suppliers and customers, linked with individual detailed profiles and KYC information.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• First rate academic background in finance, accounting, or engineering field.
• Relevant experience, coverage and knowledge of the Natural Resources and Commodities sector will be prioritized.
• Strong macro research experience, preferably with a specialized expertise in one commodity.
• Personable with a preference for developing strong, collaborative working relationships.
• Strong analytical and statistical skills.
• Excellent data management skills.
• Excellent data visualization skills.
• Independent thinkers with a growth mindset.
• Very strong numerical, logical reasoning and analytical skills.
• Willing to travel domestically and internationally (30%) and work with different time zones, if required.

REMUNERATION PACKAGE

• Job location: Hanoi Office
• Working time: 8h/day, from Monday – Friday (Saturday & Sunday off)
