Tungsten Intermediates and their properties
Ammonium paratungstate (APT) is a white, crystalline powder with very high chemical purity. It is needed primarily as a universal intermediate product in the production of tungsten oxides, tungstic acid, ammonium metatungstate, and organometallic components. The compound is also used in catalysis and fine chemistry.
Yellow tungsten oxides (YTO) is tungsten trioxide, manufactured from calcining APT under oxidizing condition. The YTO particles are pseudomorphous to APT; which means the particles have the same shape and size as the former APT crystals, but consist of very small WO3 grains. The compound is primarily used in the manufacture of tungsten metal powders, but also finds use in pigmentation applications and catalysis
Blue tungsten oxides (BTO) is manufactured by calcination of APT under reducing conditions. BTO is not a chemically defined compound, but consists of various different constituents, like trioxide, tungsten bronzes and different lower tungsten oxides. The BTO particles are pseudomorphous to APT, similar to YTO. The compound is primarily used in the manufacture of tungsten metal powders.
