Making Waves: Empowering Pupils through Summer Swimming Sponsorship
On June 7, Nui Phao Mining partnered with the Youth Union of Tan Linh commune (Dai Tu district) to inaugurate swimming courses benefiting nearly 70 pupils from Tan Linh primary and secondary schools.
70 pupils from Tan Linh primary and secondary schools in Dai Tu will gather weekly at Thuan Hien swimming pool in Hamlet 3, Tan Linh commune for exciting summer swimming lessons. This extracurricular activity aims to enrich their summer vacation experience this year.

Hoang Van Quan, secretary of the Youth Union of Tan Linh commune, said: “We are excited to organize swimming courses in conjunction with Nui Phao Mining in the hope of equipping local pupils with knowledge and skills in water safety, for their health improvement and fewer drowning accidents.”
According to the Secretary of the Tan Linh Youth Union, swimming lessons normally cost between 1 and 2 million dong per child. This is a high cost that pupils in Tan Linh rural areas can barely afford. Aware of this situation, the Youth Union proposed and received support from Nui Phao Mining, which covers two-thirds of the learning costs for each student.
Taking part in the course, pupils will learn to swim appropriately with lifeguards on duty who are ready to assist learners in any incident.

Nguyen Thuy Duong, a swimming class member and a pupil at Tan Linh School, said: “We’re very happy to take part in the swimming class as there aren’t many fun, extracurricular activities here. The pool is big, the water is cool, and our teacher is very supportive. I will try to swim well to protect myself from drowning.”
Each swimming class has one or two qualified teachers from local schools. Each course will last from 10 to 12 days. Bui Van Thanh, a physical training teacher at Tan Linh Secondary School, and swimming teacher, said: “Primary and secondary school pupils are at an appropriate age to learn swimming, and therefore can learn very fast. While most of the pupils are afraid of water and tend to swim by instinct during the first few lessons, they are gaining confidence and enjoying swimming more day by day.”
On hot, sunny summer vacations, young children tend to swim in the cool waters of ponds, lakes, and rivers, putting themselves to the risk of drowning at any time. Particular attention should therefore be paid to communication about the benefits of swimming lessons and water safety skills. In this way, children can exercise for their health while acquiring life skills for self-protection and drowning prevention.

In 2023, Nui Phao Mining also funded the “Exciting Summer with Blue Lanes” program, which provided basic swimming skills for over 90 pupils from Phuc Linh primary and secondary school. 100% of the pupils acquired skills in drowning prevention and self-protection, as well as basic swimming techniques.
Over the years, Nui Phao Mining has proactively participated in “Action for Children” programs. To date, the company has given hundreds of bicycles and scholarships to over 200 HIV-positive and underprivileged children, and funded heart surgeries for local children with congenital heart disease. Nui Phao Mining has been recognized as one of Thai Nguyen province’s responsible business role models, consistently accompanying the locality through practical CSR activities, including wellness and education support for disadvantaged children, making Thai Nguyen one of the top 10 provinces for the effective implementation of children’s rights, ranked by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.
