French and EU Ambassadors visit Vietnam’s largest Tungsten mine
Thai Nguyen, November 26, 2024 – Masan High-Tech Materials proudly hosted a high-level delegation from the French Embassy in Vietnam, led by H.E. Mr. Olivier Brochet, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to Vietnam, and H.E. Mr. Julien Guerrier, Ambassador of the European Union to Vietnam. This marked the first-ever visit by both Ambassadors to the mine site, highlighting Nui Phao Mine’s significance as Vietnam’s largest tungsten mine.

Exploring Operational Excellence at Nui Phao
The delegation, comprising 10 members, was warmly received by Mr. Ashley McAleese – General Manager of Thai Nguyen Operations, members of the Board of Directors, and heads of departments.
During the visit, French and EU Ambassadors and delegation members explored key areas of the operation, including the mining pit, waste treatment facilities, and advanced tungsten processing plant. The delegation expressed admiration for the scale, professionalism, and technological advancements demonstrated at the site.
Nui Phao Mining representatives showcased its innovative production capabilities, including modern recycling technologies and green transition initiatives aimed at resource optimization and carbon emission reduction.
From ESG Standards to Strategic Collaboration
The two Ambassadors also paid special attention to the company’s community activities and social responsibility programs as well as commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. Ambassador Olivier Brochet emphasized the importance of adhering to European ESG standards, stating: “EU and French businesses seek partnerships with companies that uphold stringent ESG criteria. For Vietnamese businesses looking to access European markets, a clear understanding and implementation of these standards are essential”.

Vision for Future Collaboration
France now stands as Vietnam’s second-largest European investor, and with geopolitical dynamics reshaping global supply chains, opportunities for collaboration abound. China’s ongoing restrictions on critical mineral exports have driven Western countries to seek alternative suppliers, placing Masan High-Tech Materials in a pivotal position as a reliable source of high-quality tungsten and other critical minerals for global markets, including the U.S., Japan, South Korea, and Europe.
Expressing optimism about the visit, CEO Mr. Ashley McAleese remarked: “Masan High-Tech Materials is committed to driving sustainable innovation while actively participating in green transition projects and getting prepared to expand access to European markets and beyond. We look forward to working with French and EU businesses to develop a strengthened platform for critical resources supply, serving the increasing needs of global industries.”
On this occasion, the French and EU Embassies reiterated their commitment to supporting Vietnam businesses in developing products that meet Europe’s rigorous ESG standards and connecting MHT with French and European business partners.
