Nui Phao Mining: Paving the Way for a Green and Modern Thai Nguyen
By 2025, Thai Nguyen province is expected to become one of the modern and smart economic and industrial centers in the Northern Midland and Mountainous region and the Hanoi Capital region. This goal requires improvements and modernization of industrial sectors, while also promoting the development of new industrial zones to create favorable conditions for both domestic and foreign investors.
By 2030, Thai Nguyen aims to become one of the leading centers for high-level electricity, electronics, and mechanical manufacturing. Additionally, the province aims to become a hub for education and high-quality human resource training, as well as for research and application of high technology in production.

By 2050, the goal is to develop Thai Nguyen province to meet the standards of becoming a centrally governed city that is green, smart, and has a clear identity; a modern industrial center in the Hanoi Capital region and the nation; and a desirable, safe, and prosperous place to live and visit.
Additionally, Thai Nguyen province has set specific goals: economic growth rate (GRDP) reaching about 8% to 8.5% per year; industry and construction accounting for about 60%, services about 32.8%, and agriculture, forestry, and fisheries about 7.2%; per capita GRDP reaching about $8,900…
The province holds key mineral resources for industrial applications.
According to the US Geological Survey, Vietnam has tungsten reserves of about 100,000 tons, ranking third in the world. Currently, tungsten is used as a wear-resistant material in metalworking, mining, oil and gas, and construction industries. Additionally, tungsten is used in the automotive, energy, construction, aerospace, military, aviation, and power generation industries.
This metal is nearly irreplaceable in a range of industrial applications such as high-performance machine manufacturing and steel alloy production.
In fact, Thai Nguyen province holds 90% of Vietnam’s tungsten reserves. Thai Nguyen is located in the Northeast mineral region of Vietnam, within the Pacific mineral belt.

Notably, in recent years, tungsten output from the Nui Phao mine in Thai Nguyen has accounted for about 33% of the global tungsten output, excluding supply from China, making it the second largest in the world. This is one of the largest identified tungsten reserves outside of China, with 52.5 million tons of ore averaging 0.21% WO3…
The development vision to 2050 aims to build Thai Nguyen province to meet the standards of becoming a centrally governed city that is green, smart, and has a clear identity; a modern industrial center in the Hanoi Capital region and the nation; and a desirable, safe, and prosperous place to live and visit.
